Engraving (from it. gravieren, fr. graver - to cut out on something) is a process of creation of the image, an ornament and etc. on a surface of glass or other firm materials, by modifying (change, infringement) physical and-or chemical structure of this surface.
Engraved on a surface of a stone, a tree or an image bone meet among archeological finds, since a paleolith epoch, and also on later metal products. Therefore development of technologies of engraving on a glass surface was quite natural. Most likely, the first had been mastered technology of manual engraving by the abrasive tool. Manual (mechanical) engraving is made by the metal or abrasive tool (a cutter, around and etc.). It is one of the most difficult and labour-consuming ways of dressing of glass who does not allow to reproduce the image, i.e. to create identical copies.
Now use following technologies of manual engraving: a method engraving, a grinding method, a method of cutting and a percussion method.
Engraving by methods гранения and grindings Consists in mechanical removal from a processed surface of small particles of glass by means of the abrasive or metal tool then the surface becomes matte. At necessity, it is possible to polish it. We will notice that гранение till now is one of the basic ways of dressing of products of crystal and боросиликатного glasses. This technique has appeared as a result of expansion of a scope of technologies of a facet of jewels. A method version гранения is diamond гранение or a diamond carving - a way of dressing of a crystalware at which drawing is created by drawing of deep cuts of trihedral section.
Distinction between a method of grinding and a method гранения consists that at гранении on a glass surface planes (side) are created, and at grinding the decorative effect is reached by means of small and superficial рисок, put by the abrasive tool on a surface has flown down.
